Your new conservatory should compliment your house and is as versatile and adaptable as you want it to be. Our conservatories are available in a wide range of styles, sizes and finishes with options that will meet most of your requirements. For the roof, you have the choice of either glass or polycarbonate. The best glass roof for controlling heat and condensation is Pilkington K Glass which has now been further developed into Pilkington Activ – the world’s first self-cleaning glass. On the other hand a polycarbonate roof is lighter and the cheaper option when it comes to roofing systems, but can be very noisy in the rain. Whatever option you choose you will be guided every step of the way by our dedicated advisors.
Glass Roof Options
Pilkington Activ™ Self- Cleaning Glass
Long described as an impossible dream, self-cleaning glass is now a reality. After years of research and development leading glass manufacturer Pilkington has introduced the Pilkington Activ™ range of products. The range has products which combine both self-cleaning and solar control properties, making them highly desirable amongst homeowners looking for the ultimate in glass solutions.
Pilkington Activ Clear
Pilkington Activ™ Clear is the world's first self-cleaning glass with advanced dual-action for superior results.
A must for conservatories, skylights, glass doors and windows; Self-cleaning glass is revolutionising the way homeowners feel about glass in their homes. The unique dual-action coating on Pilkington Activ™ Clear uses the forcesofnature to help keep the glass clear of organic dirt, giving you not only the practical benefit of less cleaning, but also clearer, better-looking windows.
Using a "photocatalytic" process, the coating on Pilkington Activ™ Clear reacts with ultra-violet rays present in natural daylight to break down and disintegrate organic dirt. The second stage occurs when rainwater hits the glass. Pilkington Activ™ Clear is "hydrophilic" which means that instead of forming droplets, the water spreads evenly over the surface and as it runs off takes the dirt with it. Compared with conventional glass, the water also dries off very quickly without leaving unsightly drying spots.
Pilkington Activ Blue
Pilkington Activ Blue is an attractive blue glass that combines dual-action, self-cleaning properties with solar control performance for a cooler internal environment.
Building a conservatory provides you with an additional living area and a space to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors from inside. In fact, conservatories are becoming highly sought after home additions and it is so easy to see why.
If you are going to build one it is essential that you make the correct conservatory glass choices. Pilkington Activ™ offers two types of glass that were specifically designed with the needs of conservatory owners in mind: Pilkington Activ™ Blue, and Pilkington Activ™ Neutral.
Pilkington Activ™ Blue is regarded as the ultimate choice for conservatory roof construction. The subtle blue tint offers aesthetic appeal and optimum performance. Keeping your conservatory cooler in summer is integral to the enjoyment you'll get out of this new living space and Pilkington Activ™ Blue helps keep internal temperatures cooler whilst still maintaining excellent light transmittance.
A second option for your Conservatory is the Polycarbonate roof, which is a lighter and cheaper option when it comes to roofing systems. Polycarbonate roofs will reduce glare and therefore increasing comfort levels in your conservatory. In the winter months most of the heat loss escapes through the roof; with our polycarbonate roof, a large proportion of rising heat is radiated back into the room, helping to maintain comfortable temperatures and reducing heating costs.
